WGC halted over snow in the Arizona Desert


Snowstorm in the Arizona desert has stopped play in the opening round of the World Golf Championship. Golf is played through belting rain and gale force wind, but when it comes to snow and sleet, play is stopped. The sand dunes of the Arizona desert now resembling ski slopes, in a bizarre weather change.

Within half an hour of rain starting the course was covered in snow. As far as Australians at the tournament go, 41st seed Jason Day controlled 24th seed Zach Johnson 6-up in the head to head elimination event after 10 holes before play was stopped. Top Australian seed, Adam Scott, leads Tim Clark 1-up after eight holes. Marcus Fraser is all square with Keegan Bradley after three holes, however, John Senden is 5-down after 12 holes against Bo Van Pelt.

Play was halted even before World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and World No. 2 Tiger Wood could get out there in their clashes against Shane Lowry and Charles Howell III respectively.
